South
West Analogue can supply the J. A. Michell Engineering urntables
which are a favourite world wide for their aesthetics and
wonderful sound. Michell Eng. was founded in the late sixties
by the late John Michell a true gentleman, sorely missed
by everyone who knew him.
The Gyrodec was a landmark audio
product, using new materials this took suspended sub-chassis
turntables to a new level, that it is still in production
is a testament to its design. The Gyrodec`s success led
to the bigger and heavier Orbe, which again has been a major
success for the company.
Recent developments are the lower
cost (less acrylic/no dust cover) skeletal or SE versions
of both turntables and the adoption of a high quality DC
motor with its H.R. power supply. Older turntables can
be upgraded, including fitting the DC motor and supply. A
recent introduction to the range is the TechnoDec, a solid
plinth attractive entry level Gyrodec.
The value for money
Rega RB300 tone-arm is a good introduction to Michell ownership
before moving up to the excellent SME range, with the superb
new "M2" being
an ideal first choice. The South West Analogue acrylic
lift off covers are available for SE models
