ORTOFON CARTRIDGES"ACCURACY IN SOUND"Two Danish engineers Axel Peterson and Arnold Poulsen started the original Ortofon company just after the first world war went on to produce the first fully syncronized sound film. Then at the conclusion of the second world war they produced the first moving coil cutter heads which led to the first moving coil cartridge in 1948. The design was further refined leading on to the famous SPU range, `Stereo Pick-Up` even though then as now some versions are mono. Modern versions of the SPU still have there devotees and are available in some markets suitable for fitment to the older detachable headshell SME type tonearms. The SPU Royal N is available from us to special order with delivery about 3/4 weeks. The 2009 cartridge line up includes the New MC Windfeld, designed and named after Per Windfeld a prominent part of the design team for over 30 years. This new state-of-the art model is described as the worlds most hi-tech cartridge and yet it retails in the UK for only £2,250.00 which is less than half the price of some of it`s competitors. To commemorate the 90th anniversary of Ortofon`s technical leadership in the audio industry they have produced a new model which is the cul;mination of decades of research in the field of analogue sound, the A90. a true contender for the best moving coil pick-up of all time. Ortofon have made over 300 different models of cartridge, and still offer an extensive range from high resolution moving coils and moving magnets to models designed for the disco market.
