South West Analogue THE SME SPECIALIST.
We have been involved with SME in both manufacturing and sales for over thirty years. For well over twenty years we were employed by the company in the assembly, servicing and shipping of the all the companies products at their Steyning factory in Sussex, England. This same factory has been making tonearms for nearly fifty years, a unique achievement.
We started South West Analogue in 1998 and now have ten years of experience selling their products. We have an in-depth knowledge of all of SME`s products that is second to none, we get enquiries from all over the world from customers keen for advice on what they regard as "The Rolls Royce" of the audio world.
SME was founded in 1946 by the late Alastair Robertson-Aikman, who sadly passed away after a lengthy illness at the end of October 2006. We are glad to say the company is now in the capable hands of his son Cameron who is very keen to continue the traditional SME values of quality and service.
Originally the company made precision scale models and was called Scale Model Equipment, which of course was abbreviated to SME in the early sixties when the sale of "pick up arms" took over the business. ARA`s swan song was the Model 20/12A turntable with the magnesium tubed 12" tone arm named the 312S, a machine he very much enjoyed listening to as it gave him a different insight into his favourite records.
We often get asked if a Model 30/12A will ever see the light of day, officially we must say that this turntable is a strong possibility. For more information on this model and a possible 12" Series V with a one piece magnesium tube, this page will be the first to announce them.
All new turntables have a new 8 bit computer controlled power supply, this gives even better speed control with increased torque to the poweful DC motor. This gives markedly enhanced sound quality.
Older Mark 2 turntables with the rectangular shaped power supply can be easily upgraded with this new unit. Unfortunately there are no common components so a part exchange is not normally possible and the new unit costs £1,281.00 regardless of turntable. In order to help customers with the older psu we will give a concession on that unit to help you experience the benefits of the new one.
