The Series V-12 is the latest in a long line of 12" tonearms that SME have built over the last fifty years and utilizes an extended pressure die-cast magnesium tone-arm to make the most of the reduction in maximum tracking error and distortion over its smaller brother. This strong but light material gives the tone arm an effective mass of only 12.0g.

SME SERIES V-12
The Series V-12 was initially designed for its companion turntable the Model 30/12 but is now increasingly finding favour with M20/12 owners as well. Where a customer just has a single cartridge the one piece magnesium casting of the tonearm tubing produces virtually no resonance giving a completely natural sound without having its own sonic footprint, this allows the turntable and cartridge to have the very best platform to their job.
Upgraded top of the range pure Silver Litz internal wiring is fitted as standard, this is an optional extra with all other Series V models except the Gold plated version.
In all other respects this tonearm is like an enlarged Series V and to fully fit that description it has a large weight carrying capability. Instead of being from 4.0 to 18.0g this is increased to 5.0 to 32.0g, this is made possible with the interchangeable tungsten weight inserts.
With minimal friction roller bearings adjusted down to just a few microns this is as low a resonant tonearm as it is possible to produce. This means a neutral sound quality to enjoy the music totally as it was recorded with nothing added and certainly nothing taken away.
The RRP or the Series V-12 is £3,102.48 or £3,722.98 with VAT added.
The RRP of the Series V-12 Gold which is 24 carat gold plated is £4,126.20 or £4,951.44 with VAT added. Please refer to the Series V Gold Plated page for a picture of that model.
Please note: the Series V-12 is not produced even to special order with a detachable headshell, this function is taken by the 312S.
